Hey there. I’m Arcelia Emerson, a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate in Montgomery, Texas, supervised by April West, LPC-S.
Before counseling I spent many years in the corporate world, working in oil and gas. It was a good career. It was not the one I wanted to finish. My own experience of being in therapy, and what it did for me, is what made me go back and retrain for a second career in my forties rather than wonder about it.
I finished a Master’s in clinical mental health counseling at Sam Houston State University, and I now work with clients of all ages who are dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, ADHD, relationship difficulties, life transitions, or the feeling of being stuck without being able to say exactly why.
I believe we are the sum of our experiences. The relationships, the challenges, the losses and the ways we learned to cope all shape who we are now. Counseling gives us a space to understand those pieces, to see how they are still working on us today, and to decide what is worth carrying forward and what you are ready to put down.
This work matters to me because I understand counseling from both sides of the room. I have been the client. I know how hard it is to say the first true thing out loud, and I know it is worth it. You do not need to have it all figured out before you call. We start where you are, build on what is already working, and go from there together.
